Taco Bell and Patients

Posted on July 29, 2018 by main

Ok, so this photograph is not a photo of Taco Bell, and that’s because I am not employed by that establishment to provide marketing. However, if Taco Bell wants to employ me as a marketer, using my lively application of words to their products, I’ll be happy to do so. Also, it’s still summer, and I enjoyed walking on this Lake Michigan Beach. I try to be on time for my patients, or at Read More

Fifth Grade Chorus: A Seminal Event

Posted on June 29, 2018 by main

Warning: Some who read this may laugh, some may cry, and yet others may simply smile and say to themselves,”yeah, that explains it.” I’ve had a few life experiences that may qualify as seminal events, but perhaps fifth grade choir may have been one of the earliest ones I guess. Of course, its been a long time since I was 10 years old, and to be honest, I’m not sure it was third, fourt Read More

Painting Sea Life With Words

Posted on June 3, 2018 by main

I sat at a café in Monterrey while watching the playful sea otters break clams with rocks on their bellies while frolicking amongst the undulating kelp fronds. Then, I took a drink of luscious red wine, swirled it around to savor it, looked out again, and it seemed they were waving at me, or at least looking at me, so I waved back. Who cares if people were watching me. They didn’t understand. &nbs Read More

Tennis Shoes and Love

Posted on February 26, 2018 by main

“Mom, have you seen my tennis shoes?” I said from out in the garage while she was in the kitchen frying breaded perch caught in Lake Michigan. “No Carson, I haven’t seen those smelly old things, but I bet they’re right in front of you, getting ready to jump up and bite you.” I looked down, and sure enough they were several feet in front of me. How did she know? Did she have ESP? Truth Read More

Let’s Be Frank about Ralph

Posted on January 21, 2018 by main

I’ve only known maybe two Franks and actually one Ralph in my lifetime. Maybe more but I can’t remember anymore. Neither Frank was particularly impressive I suppose, but the Ralph I knew was an ok guy and we ran track together. That’s about it. But it seems to me that even though Ralph and Frank are names that certainly aren’t very common, only Frank has been successful in dominating the conversation in th Read More

A Woman and Her Mind

Posted on January 16, 2018 by main

A woman is a gift from heaven, but like any gift, you must accept the gift’s imperfections as perfect, cherish the minute she gives as if she blessed you with infinity, and always protect her so that she can flourish like your favorite flower in the garden, blossoming to the full potential that her mind has always expected her to be. Don’t stand in her way, but open the path for her forward, Read More

Goofy Medical Terminology Part 1

Posted on November 26, 2017 by main

I wrote this piece to explain some of the terms that are commonly used by physicians, nurses and respiratory technicians in the ICU to describe some of the procedures and phrases that are used during the everyday ICU environment. I must say however, that most of the time, physicians are primarily guilty of using these words and phrases because nurses and technicians are just nicer people in general. While readers Read More

I Did it on The Airplane Again

Posted on August 21, 2017 by main

I don’t have a good explanation for it, but each time I fly as a passenger, I can’t seem to control these actions anymore. It just feels so good and natural – and thankfully I haven’t been thrown off the plane yet, but if I do get thrown off, I will scream as loud as I can and hold on to my seat arm with both hands, trying not to laugh as they drag me by the legs off the plane and into the arms of a Read More

She Wouldn’t Let Me Take Pictures

Posted on August 6, 2017 by main

I awoke to the sound of my cat acting all weird, jumping up and down, grabbing the blinds covering one of the basement windows. What a pest, my cat. Probably saw a fly and was frustrated that he couldn’t catch it and eat it while air born. But since this was a temporary rental house, I needed to protect the blinds from claw damage, so, I looked out the window, saw nothing, scolded the cat and put him out in the Read More

Flamenco Guitarists in Barcelona

Posted on June 30, 2017 by main

Catalonia – it was a rich experience and I immersed myself in the culture the best I could, and I am lucky to have met some great people and enjoyed a special visit. Now I am inspired to learn the guitar! Perhaps some day I could play for the Flamenco dancers? No, I know what you are thinking. I need to finish the novel I am working on but clearly, the food and company at the El Rey De La Gamba will add Read More
