A letter from Ollie About November Third
Dear Carson:
I remember that you told me that you have some good people who avidly read your blog thing which I guess is where you write a few words for consumption by astute readers. If you have the time, please remind them of this letter I wrote and share so perhaps they can remind others:
This is not political at all. I’m tempted but I won’t.
If you are a citizen of the United States, please take a little time to vote in the mid-term elections for senators, congressmen, governors as well as local officials, but that requires getting your lazy ass off the couch. Read your ballot carefully, and this includes the referendums and ballot initiatives which I admit are sometimes a challenge to read.
Stop and think. Do not be swayed by others who speak loudly, but instead use your brain and use the common-sense God gifted to you.
If you are not a citizen stay away from voting, because it is illegal. Become a citizen the correct way, then, you have the right to vote at that time.
This is extremely important nationally as well as locally and will affect your future and your security and well-being as Americans.
I was one of many who fought for my country to preserve the freedom to vote in fair elections for people who will represent us the best. Other countries are not so lucky, so I ask do apathetic Americans want us to become one of those lost countries?
And remember, the bars are closed on election day, for the few stragglers who still go to the traditional voting places, but I will wait to drink my Guinness on November 4th. I suggest you do the same Carson.
Ollie

I remember watching news stories about elections in Iraq when Saddam Hussein was in power. There was only one name on the ballot. Citizens lined up to put their thumb print on that coercive, intimidating piece of paper with purple ink. If they did not vote for Saddam Hussein they faced unspeakable horror. Needless to say, Iraq had a 100% turnout on election days. How fortunate we are to live in this great nation that still protects the right to vote, the right to choose from many candidates, and the right to participate in decisions without the threat of death. Thank you Dr. Carson for reminding us how important it is to make our voices heard. Loved this patriotic piece. Thank you Ollie. And I will join you at the beach bar on November 4.
Voting in local referendums is important, but trying to guess what you and Ollie are planning next is the real challenge! Love the patriotic spirit behind this note. You write with so much grit and undeniable charm.
Outstanding message, Carson! Real citizens, real laws, and a well deserved Guinness waiting at the finish line. Thank you and the Colonel for keeping us grounded in what truly matters.
“Get your ass off the couch” needs to be printed on every official voting guide in the country! Ollie has a way of cutting through the media circus like nobody else. Pure, unadulterated common sense. Cheers to the old man!
