After Reading Whiskey Blog, Accept Carson’s Reader’s Challenge

If you get a chance to read my Whiskey is Staring at me blog, then you will understand this photo from The Outlaw Josey Wales.

Here is the new contest for my readers: If you have watched, or are willing to watch this movie, then submit as many of your favorite quotes that struck you the most or tickled your fancy.

I reckon some will take the challenge.

I will post the winner by May 1, the deadline for submission, and I will figure out a prize.

  1. You asked for quotes that “tickled our fancy,” so I have to go with: “Are you gonna pull those pistols or whistle Dixie?” It’s the ultimate “put up or shut up” line. Thanks for the recommendation—the popcorn is in the pan and the whiskey is poured. Here’s to a great contest.

  2. It’s no surprise a man like Ollie (or his creator) appreciates Josey Wales. It’s a story about honor and survival. My submission for the contest: Dying ain’t much of a living, boy. It’s short, gritty, and says everything about the world Josey lives in. Looking forward to seeing what other quotes people dig up!”

  3. I’ll definitely be toasting to this! One of the most powerful moments is the “words of iron” speech. “Governments don’t live together, people live together. ” It’s surprisingly relevant today. The author’s craftsmanship in linking a bottle of Breckenridge to this cinematic history makes the reading experience so much richer. Good luck to everyone entering!

  4. My choice is: “Endeavor to persevere.” It’s a bit of dark humor in the movie, but it’s also a profound truth about life. Sometimes, just like Ollie in the classroom or the narrator with the lost luggage, all you can do is keep moving forward. Taking that shot of whiskey isn’t just about the drink; it’s about a moment of peace before the next trail.

  5. I’m going to the cardio machines now and I’ll definitely watch this movie)
