Wile E. Coyote

WILE E. COYOTE

Some of you older folks may remember the Looney toon – Wile E. Coyote ( Carnivorous Vulgarus, Hungrii fleabagius, Hard Headipus Ravenous) and Road Runner ( Semper foodellus, super – sonic idioticus, Speedipus Rex), apparently broadcast in the 50’s through 80’s. Of course, I don’t remember it playing live on TV because of my young, tender age, but I have of course, watched many of these educational re – runs. Want to buy some cheap land in Florida?

For those of you who were deprived of this cartoon when you were young, it involved a coyote who was a scientific genius, and tried his best to invent contraptions and weapons to catch the very fast road runner, his elusive dinner, as it screamed past him. These inventions (supplied by the ACME Company) included rocket powered sleds, bombs, earthquake pills, birdseed with an anvil hanging from a cliff, etc.

Unfortunately, Wile E. remained hungry because the inventions always backfired, or the road runner outsmarted the traps and the poor skinny coyote often ended up a victim of his own potentially lethal inventions. I was always pleased to see however, that he recovered nicely from grand pianos, anvils and boulders falling on his head from majestic rocky cliffs, but I yearned to someday witness the coyote successfully catching and of course eating that damn smart – ass roadrunner. I suppose the creators felt that would end the cartoon, but really, there are many roadrunners to be eaten, and of course, the show would go on! It gives us hope as humans that eventually we will succeed in our quest!

Surprised we were able to cope with this cartoon dashing our hopes for success in life!

Interestingly, I just returned from a road trip through the beautiful southwest, including New Mexico and Arizona (Sedona) and I finally found the location where this cartoon was filmed! Yes, the red – rocked desert and high rocky cliffs brought back memories. I wonder what it was like to film in those majestic conditions. I’m sure the film crew had to be well hydrated on the set.

Just wanted to see if you were awake.

I’m sure they don’t make cartoons like that anymore, and that’s too bad.
