I’ve started a new project and it’s sure a lot different from writing novels. I am teaching myself through various media and study, to write screenplays, and I am staring with short TV pilots of thirty minutes each. After I perfect this genre, I will convert my published novels into screenplays for the big screen, since people keep telling me this is the way to go.
So, I have accepted the challenge, although daunting as hell.
I’m learning that screenplays adhere to a strict format and are created to tell the story through scenes captured by the camera lens but stopping short of telling the actors reading the script how to do their job of acting without spilling out exact details as you would in a novel.
I have just completed my first TV series pilot screenplay and although it is rough around the edges and not polished, I’ll get there, eventually. Frankly, I find writing this new genre to be an inspiring brain tease and the challenge I needed.
I am going to write two TV series pilots, and then full-length movie screenplays adapted from my novels after that. I have already started writing a new novel, that I cannot discuss right now, but who knows, maybe, I will write it directly to a screenplay rather than a novel?
Do any of my readers want to venture a guess on what will be the Title of the first TV series?
