Time to Bring Him In

Time to Bring Him In

Last time she saw Carson, she found him sitting in a booth at the beach bar —writing something in a beat-up notebook, and she was making some progress with her previously irresistible bouncy-walk combined with a deadly eyelash interrogation technique.  But it didn’t work, for the first time in her adult life. The tricky doctor got away by slipping out the window of the bathroom and didn’t even say goodbye.  She knew she should’ve gone after him in the men’s room and grabbed him by the ankles and pulled him back in, if she’d only known he was on to her.

But the stiffs in Langley told her she needed to bring him in.

Seems that was easier said than done, because this bookworm doctor, would be writer, seems to have learned some slick techniques somewhere because they sure as hell don’t teach that in medical school. Obviously, she thought, it was from the old man and he must have taken him under his wings.  But why would this Carson guy want to waste his time with some 103-year-old man who was never in one place for longer than a few fleeting moments of mysterious conversation and beer?

Yeah, she would certainly bring him in, but she would do it on her own terms, because she knew Carson would not come in willingly.  But it was obvious, Carson was the key to finding Ollie, but the old man was the prize that it seems, no one could harness.  After all, the secret service couldn’t even hold the old guy in jail for more than a day in Washington.   Either way, it seems, Sam the bartender has become an endless waterfall of information, especially after she invited him for a leisurely moonlight stroll along the beach.  Seems there’s a statuesque blue-eyed blonde with silky smooth legs who has some connection to Ollie and it seems as well, was looking for his younger cohort —Carson.  She likes cookies and cream ice cream and she knew the place.

Veronica found the place because this Suzy-Q left her card for Sam. Such an innocent girl, it seems.   The girl with the shiny gun didn’t like Los Angeles but that is where she had to go. Mornings and afternoons and evenings she would go and have some ice cream, but coffee only in the morning because she needed her beauty-sleep but never did she see Suzy.

Then it happened.  She found this blonde sitting alone at a small table for two and the place was packed.  This Suzy was trying to read a book or some kind of notebook but Veronica noticed these men kept coming up to her to try to talk or buy her more cookies and cream ice cream, but she would simply smile courteously and shake her head, and they walked away dejectedly.  But why was she concentrating on this notebook so much?  So intense!

Veronica saw her chance and clicked her heels on the porcelain floor, causing the men to follow the unmistakable sound with their eyes, twisting their curious necks knowing that only a feminine form could make this distinct rhythm, and she came up to Suzy and said:

“Excuse me, I couldn’t find a seat.  May I join you?”

  1. Riveting twist of events in this compelling story. So many captivating characters to follow. Sly, calculating Veronica sparks my curiosity. Who is she? What does she want to know? I can’t wait to eavesdrop on this feline conversation between sneaky Veronica and innocent Suzy. Keep on writing this amazing story Dr. Carson. I love how you describe scenes. Thanks for making reading so much fun.

  2. oh this cunning Veronica… I’m sure that here she will also suffer the collapse of her hopes… well, or so I would like…
