While it is true that I do have a large thundering herd of avid readers, perhaps only a small group of about a thousand will remember my blog piece from a few years ago, where I lamented my difficulty in finding a real middle name that starts with an “R”. You’ve probably been losing very little sleep at all, completely not wondering if I have had any success in my difficult search.
Sadly, I have been unsuccessful. Unfortunately, my creativity sometimes will vanish, especially when I am sleep deprived, or more tragically, when I have run out of cold Guinness in the refrigerator.
Just to provide a slightly painful review, similar to running your fingernails across a chalkboard, I was never given a middle name. Instead, I was given an “R” middle name when I was a baby, because my parents did not want me to be burdened by a middle name that I didn’t like. I respected that. However, there were times, like Medical School graduation, where the authorities questioned my truthfulness when I said they can put only “R” on my diploma as a middle name. They told me it is not nice to lie and doctors don’t lie, and since I was then about to become an official M.D. in five minutes, with a real stethoscope and a brand new pen to write completely ineligibly, they told me to tell the truth.
So, I did. “R”
So, I need my astute readers to help me pick out a good middle name. I will list the names below, and I want you to vote for the one you think is best for author S.R. Carson. Here we go:
- Ronald
- Richard. Sometimes called Dick
- Robert
- Rolando
- Raul
- Raymond
- Ryan
- Remington
- Ranson
- Rocky
- Ralph
- Randolph
I have narrowed it down to about three, but I need some assistance please. Please note, the voting polls on my site will end on December 25th, when I celebrate Christmas. Please think about it, and vote after a mandatory minimum of two minutes of intense thought, and yes of course, alcoholic beverages are allowed and sometimes encouraged to let the heavy chains fly off your brilliant neurons.

I vote for Raul
I pick Richard, it’s a classic, strong name and has many variations like Rick, Richie, Ricardo, and Riccardo and of course Dick 🙂
I vote for Ralph. It sounds like a wise independent and powerful individual.
I don’t want to seem rude, but I like Richard, sometimes called Dick.
I like Randolph or Randall or Randy.
how about Ridiculous!
I think R stands for Remarkable
I absolutely love this piece. It is ridiculously fun! And SR Carson is quite remarkable. In honor of my chaps across the pond, I choose Royal. S Royal Carson is very fitting.
To be honest, I would still read about each name and what it means… (each name carries a hidden message or strength or softness, etc.), but it seems to me that Rayen sounds more sweet… and here is what I found in the description of this name: The name Rayan is probably a variant of the popular name Ryan and has Celtic roots (Irish “Rían” – “little king”, “king”, or from the Celtic “Rian” – “ruler”, “ruler”), and may also be an Arabic variant (Ryan, meaning “gates of paradise” or “abundant” *). Depending on the origin, the meaning varies from “little king” or “ruler” to “gates of paradise”, but the main feature is the connection with nobility, leadership and spirituality
