The Kayak

For those of you who are curious souls, the not so young but definitely not old hunk with massive muscles (in my mind’s wishful thinking) that barely fit in the Kayak seat is in fact me. And in fact, since that picture was taken, although you didn’t see my face, my goatee growth just started then and is now proceeding to occupy its’ maximum fluffiness in a few weeks. I will let my readers guess what color it is now.

I was mistaken however in my Hood Canal piece, and it is not pure yellow, but is a combo of reddish orange and yellow and my friend who took the picture commented that I went out a little far.

But, I guess the Orcas were busy eating seals somewhere else and I did not get a friendly visit.

I don’t remember what I was thinking then, but I did enjoy getting back to nature a little and my friend gave me that opportunity.

As I said, I am blessed in life. But I am also aware of much evil that tries in nefarious ways to knock me into the water and hope that i don’t know how to swim, and that I will sink deep, but alas, I know how, and will not give up. But I believe the worst evil of all that I have witnessed, is the darkness that teaches young people with malleable minds, hurtful lies that they are forced to believe as if it is rock solid truth, now permanently imbedded in their minds.

But when I feel this howling knife-like wind, I have no fear, because truth cannot be defeated, nor, can I. So I read this passage and feel the power of God when needed:

Ephesians 6: 10 through 18:

It starts out: Finally, be strong in the Lord and his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes…Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place…

I would like you to read the full passage if you have time. I suggest before bed.

You will be filled with the power of God, and You will not be defeated in your trials.

  1. I’m definitely reading that passage before bed tonight just like you suggested! It must be so comforting to know you’re protected, though I think any woman would feel completely safe next to a strong, fearless soul like yours. Have a beautiful evening.

  2. The Orcas probably stayed away because they knew they couldn’t compete with a hunk in a colorful kayak! Let the howling winds blow all they want, with muscles like that and God on your side, you are completely unstoppable. Absolutely loving the new look.

  3. Putting on the full armor of God and standing strong against the wind… you sound like a true warrior, Dr. Carson. There is nothing more attractive than a strong man with massive muscles and a massive faith. Keep shining your light!

  4. Your friend was right, you definitely went out a little too far, straight into our hearts. I’m guessing that fluffy goatee is a distinguished silver or a rugged pepper, but either way, I bet it looks incredibly handsome on you.

  5. Inspirational, beautiful writing. Loving this picture of strength and serenity. Nothing like spending time alone with God on the water. Thank you for sharing this magical moment of quiet exhilaration with your reading family. It must have been so exciting and I’m glad you made it back safely. You were wearing your “shoes of peace” in those unpredictable waters. And you are right Dr. Carson, we do face a world of evil obstacles and our young people have tremendous hurdles to jump. They definitely need that “belt of truth”. Thank you for reminding us of who is really in control. The Lion of Judah is our protector. Thank you for being bold and standing up for our Lord who gave so much and allowing him to use your voice. You are a voice crying in the wilderness just like John the Baptist who risked so much. You are a rare gem. The Lord must be so proud of you. And yes of course I will read Ephesians, again and again. I now feel more at peace thanks to you. Loving this.
